The Channel Country Cattle Tour 2026

Tour Full

Tour Details

The Channel Country is one of the most sparsely populated areas of Outback Queensland, but what it lacks in people it makes up for in cattle. Fed by rivers, such as the Georgina, Diamantina and Cooper Creek, its braided channels come to life after rain, creating rich cattle-fattening country. The tour begins and ends in Longreach, home of the Stockman’s Hall of Fame, and features visits to well-known cattle stations, character-filled outback towns including Winton, Boulia and Bedourie, plus two nights at the iconic Birdsville Hotel.

Tour Highlights:

  • Visit iconic and successful company and privately owned stations
  • Birdsville and a 2-night stay at the iconic Birdsville Hotel encompassing the surrounding area – the Racecourse, Big Red, Channel Country , Simpson & Sturt Stony Deserts
  • Longreach – the heart of outback Queensland

“Just back from the Top End and Kimberley Cattle Tour. What an amazing eye opening tour with huge wide open spaces, very large (up to 2million ha) cattle stations many thousands of cattle and very genuine people we met on this trip. If I was in my 20s I would be over there like a shot gaining the experience of living and working in this area. A tour we would recommend for anyone wanting to see one of the last outposts in Australia. There is so much to rave on about but not enough space!!”
